How To: Chop an Onion
It’s really easy to chop an onion into slices or fine pieces. Just make sure you are using a sharp knife and that you keep your fingers back, out of the way, and follow these simple step-by-step instructions:
Step 1: Start by cutting the top and bottom off the onion and peeling it.
Step 2: Stand it on its end and cut straight down through the middle.
Step 3: Turn one half on its side, cut side down.
Step 4: Make thin cuts through the onion so it falls in semicircles. Leave it like this if the recipe calls for slices.
Step 5: If you want it chopped finely (diced), lay the slices down flat and cut through them into small pieces.
When you’re happy with the size of your pieces, repeat steps 3-5 with the other half. Simple!
